Pastorale
Pastorale was painted during a period of transition for Nielsen. After experimenting with concrete painting, he was looking for a new form of expression that would allow him to capture the beauty and spontaneity of the world around him. This painting is an excellent example of his success in this path.
The painting depicts a field of wildflowers bathed in sunlight, with red poppies and cornflowers dominating the composition.
